Do you believe that money is the root and the cause of all evil in the world today?
The phrase; “Money is the root of all evil” has been around for centuries.
Who said it and where can it be found?
Well, sort of.
In truth, the Bible gets misquoted often, but that is a message for another day.
Over the course of the next 3 minutes, we will clear up some false beliefs and misunderstandings, as well as show you whether or not money is the root of all evil.
Who Created Money?
Before we can know if money is the cause of all evil, we must know it origins.
Did the Federal Reserve invent money?
No, they did not create money.
Because money has been around for centuries and centuries, and The Fed was formed in 1913.
A web search to see who created money, tells us that King Alyattes of Lydia, created the first coins in history way back in 600 B.C.
But did he really?
Because God created the universe and all thing, in truth, God created money.
Moreover, because God created money, it is God who puts ideas into the minds of men and women each and every day and the results are the good contributions that God wants for the world.
God creates all things for His good purposes with each passing moment of each day.
The World Needs Crossing Guards Too Son
As a young boy, I was type A all the way, always doing something, competitive to the end in everything.
A little boy with Big Dreams!
Driving home with my dad one day, we came to a stop in a school zone.
My eyes locked in on the crossing guard who was helping other young kids safely cross the way to their destination.
“Dad, do you think he’s happy doing that? Just helping us kids cross the street, I mean is that all he’ll ever do?”
My father in his wisdom, said with a smile; “The world needs crossing guards too son.”
It wasn’t until later in life that I understood what my dad meant.
That crossing guard played a very important role, one designed for him by God in making sure the young children he was responsible for, made it safely on their way each and every day.
The Bible Is Being Misquoted
Is money the cause of all evil?
The Bible does not say that money is the root of all evil.
1 Timothy 6:10; “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
And there you have it.
The love of money, allowing yourself to become obsessed with it, consumed with it, is how money comes to be the cause of all evil.
In truth, the love and obsession of it, is how money leads to all other sin.
The love of money is the root of all evil.
Once you covet money, you are inviting satan through your front door.
That said, you are NOT required to be poor to avoid evil.
Moreover, you can do great things with money to help others.
Using God’s Money For His Good Purposes
Jesus taught us about God’s money, in the Bible in Mark 12:17 KJV; “And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.”
Worth repeating, give to God, the things that are God’s.
The first thing every soul on the face of this earth should do when they receive payment for goods or services is to give a portion of that back to God.
“Yeah, but how much, once said I.”
The answer is found in 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Being a good steward of money means recognizing that you would not have any of it, if it were not for God.
Andrew Carnegie, a steel company magnate, sold his company to J.P. Morgan for millions back in 1901.
Leaving his business days in the past, Carnegie now had a mission to use some of his financial windfall for the good of all mankind.
He funded the building of 2,500 libraries around the world, as well as contributing in a big way to other great causes here in the United States and around the globe.
Carnegie, born in the United Kingdom, used his wealth in helping to establish numerous colleges, schools, nonprofit organizations and associations across the world.
That said, you don’t need a big pile of money to change the world.
I know of one person who through God’s Blessings, has gone onto build a ministry of faith in taking The Great Commission to the world!
Of the long list of people who have changed the world by how they lived and what they have done, do you know who landed at #1 on the list?
What will you do during the time you have left here on earth to shine your light on the world?
Remember to keep 1 Timothy 6:10 close by.
- Give to God what is God’s
- Pay Yourself Second (for your future)
- Give to the IRS what they claim is theirs and know your tax laws
- Pay to Live (your living expenses)
- Give deep thought to how you can help others if you are able to
In conclusion, definitely food for thought.
