What Are 7 Different Deadly Types Of Sin

There are several different types of sin. In this message we will focus on the big 7.

Satan is a crafty fellow. The sins that take you further away from God, until ultimately losing your soul to Satan can seem very appealing. This is why it’s important to understand the different types of sin before you come in contact with them.

To sin is to disobey the rules of God. As followers of God, we must do what is right. Even if we don’t do anything when we should that is also a sin. “Therefore to him, that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17)

The easiest way to understand sin is to look at the seven deadly sins as originally laid out in the 6th century (A.D. 590) by Pope Gregory I.

You are no doubt familiar with the term ‘sin’. From when we are very young we are told that we are surrounded by sin and that it is bad to sin.

Two-thirds of Americans think of themselves as sinners.

But the idea of sin can be confusing because there are different types of sin. To be as close as possible to God, we must be aware of sin. Sin can be tempting so we need to ready for it.

In this guide, we shall take a look at the different types of sin and how you can steer clear of its lure and stay true to God.

Pride

To fall prey to pride is to view oneself too highly. All human beings are created equal under our Lord.   To consider yourself more worthy of something than any other person is to sin with pride.

Pride is the excessive love of oneself and the belief that one can excel above all others. Pride will eventually bring upon your downfall, much as it did to Satan. Satan was cast from heaven because of his pride, and this is one of the best examples of sin in the bible.

When you walk with God, you should do so with humility, compassion, and meekness.

Greed

Greed, or covetousness, is rife in today’s society.

It is the desire for material wealth.

Greed is the longing for things that you don’t need.

Being greedy is both sinful and a recipe for unhappiness.

With greed comes dissatisfaction.

“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 5:10).

Different Types Of Sin: Lust

Lust is very similar to greed, but it is concerned with the physical form.

This is the sexual desire for another person.

If we give in to lust we can find ourselves engaged in sexual immorality and even adultery.

When following the path of God love, self-control and chastity should be practiced.

Envy

Envy is a sin and a route to unhappiness. To be envious is to look at the possessions, talents, and happiness of others and be jealous.

It teaches us to not be happy with ourselves on our paths with God. Envy is why Cain murdered Abel.

We should be happy that our fellow humans are doing well and show them nothing but love.

Gluttony

Gluttony is one of the most prevalent sins of the Western world. It is the overconsumption of things beyond what is necessary.

The bible teaches us to live a humble life and uses only what we need.

“Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.” (Philippians 3:19)

Different Types Of Sin: Wrath

Wrath is born from a lack of self-control. It is the feelings of anger, hatred, and rage that are allowed to manifest. Wrath commonly exists in family feuds and rivalries between peers.

Seeking vengeance is to commit the sin of wrath. It is important to remember that it is only God who can judge us. If someone does us wrong, then we must hand judgment to God.

To live a holy life it is paramount that we accept peace and forgiveness into our lives.

Sloth

Sloth is slightly different from the other sins. It is not necessarily an immoral act, but it comes from the desire to shirk responsibility.

Laziness, is the unwillingness to make progress in aspects of our lives. It could be work, spiritual development, and even with our own families.

“Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.” (Proverbs 19:15)

In today’s society, slothfulness is often promoted and advertised.

We are told to do nothing with our time instead of working hard in both our professional and spiritual lives.

Instead of chasing our development, we are bought with computer games and streaming television shows.

Society says that we should celebrate and enjoy these things.

We must realize that this is one of Satan’s cleverest deceptions. We must remain diligent and zealous.

How do we Live Among Sin?

With so many different types of sin around us, it can sometimes seem impossible to steer clear of it.

There are many times in our lives when the devil tries to tempt us away from our walk with God.

Sins often come in the form of instant gratification.

Perhaps we have been struggling with some aspect of our lives: Our marriage, faith, or financial situation.

During these times we must stay true to God.

We must realize that the enticing offers put before we are tricks of the devil. They are tests that we must pass to please the Lord.
